The Department of Ancient History at  Allahabad Degree College stands as one of the oldest and most distinguished academic departments of the institution. Established in 1956, the very year the college was founded, the department has grown in unitedly with the institution, shaping and enriching its academic landscape for nearly seven decades. Throughout its illustrious history, the department has been home to several renowned scholars and professors, including Professor R.N. Pandey, Professor Abyakt Ram Mishra, Professor H. N. Dubey and Professor Ganga Sagar Tiwari. Following their legacy, many notable professors have carried forward the torch of academic excellence and mentorship, contributing significantly to the development of historical scholarship and inspiring generations of students. 

     The department currently offers both Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programmes. The PG course, with a capacity of 62 seats, is among the most competitive and popular courses in the college. The teaching faculty consists of eight (08) permanent Assistant Professors, all of whom are distinguished scholars of reputed institutions like, University of Allahabad, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), and Lucknow University. Their collective expertise spans diverse areas of Ancient Indian history, including archaeology, art and architecture, religious traditions, and political institutions. What truly sets the department apart is its dedication to student mentoring, academic excellence, and commitment to nation-building through education. 

    Over the years, the department has produced numerous successful alumni, many of whom have gone on to become bureaucrats, university professors, researchers, and educators across India. Among all departments in the college, Ancient History consistently attracts the highest number of students, owing to its broad academic exposure and high relevance in competitive fields such as Civil Services and Teaching.
